Clinical Observation of the Fractures of Humeral Shaft - 34 Cases -


Abstract
Clinical observation was made on 34 cases with fracture of humeral shaft which were treated as conservative method at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Ewha University College of Medicine, Seoul during the period from 1971 to 1976.
Patient age ranged from at the birth to 66 years. The case of injury were mostly traffic accident (20 cases: 60%), falling (8 cases: 23%), birth trauma (4 cases: 12%), others (2 cases: 7%).
Method of treatment were only hanging cast (26 cases) and hanging cast with traction (4 cases) due to associated trauma, such as, head, chest, pelvis trauma.
Conservative method were performed. 30 cases were united in average six week. The author performed open reduction in 4 cases, due to nonunion in one case, originally severe open wound in one case, radial nerve problem in two cases, which the solid union of fracture was obtained in 8-10 weeks with open reduction. Resultly, the authors experienced good results in those cases with conservative treatment.
The purpose of this article is to report with review of literature.
